“Burning is a fiction of anticipation in which I imagine a world where water no longer exists. At the crossroads of the real and the imaginary, the series invites viewers to stroll through the vestiges of a world that’s burning, and in which humanity is faced with its own disappearance. In this dystopia, fragments, traces and memories weave the fabric of an intimate narrative, and examine the ambivalent relationship we have with our planet. Each element becomes alternately a clue to, or a symbol or relic of a suspended world, in which we no longer completely know whether the catastrophe has already taken place or if we can still act to prevent it.” – Marine Lécuyer

Burning
Born in 1986, Marine Lécuyer lives and works in Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France. Self-taught, she devoted herself to photography after initial training in social sciences and much travel. She developed a personal style at the junction of the real and the imaginary and involved herself on a daily basis in carrying out long-distance photo projects, with a primary emphasis on exploring the notion of territory – whether geographic or private. Her different projects address the question of traces, of disappearance and of memories. Since 2013 her work has been regularly presented in individual and group exhibits. Her first book, Tarifa – Tanger, appeared in 2021 with Éditions de Juillet, and was accompanied by a text by sociologist David Le Breton. Her photographs are represented in Bordeaux by Arrêt sur l’image Galerie.
