From April 9 to 20, our director Claude Goulet and photographer Serge Cl\u00e9ment explored Japanese photography at the invitation of the FOTOZOFIO Festival<\/a> in Japan, strengthening cooperation between Quebec and Japan in the creation and dissemination of photography. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This cultural journey began in Kyoto as part of the FOTOZOFIO festival and ended in Nara, at the MOMENT Contemporary Art Center<\/a>, led by Sae Cardonnel, artistic director in charge.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The trip included portfolio readings from photographers, discussions with artists and the public, and professional and artistic networking, strengthening the ties developed over the past few years with Japan. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the FOTOZOFIO festival, Claude Goulet was able to showcase the work done in Gasp\u00e9sie by presenting photos from the various editions of the Rencontres to an audience impressed by the ingenuity of the exhibition methods. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Serge Cl\u00e9ment, who is celebrating 50 years of artistic career, spoke about his artistic approach in a talk organized by the festival. He presented his works as well as photos that inspired him, images that resonated with the Japanese audience. Serge Cl\u00e9ment is currently exhibiting in the Kyoto subway as part of the festival.  <\/p>\n\n\n

Many people from around the world – including art curators, researchers, and FOTOZOFIO artists – shared their perspectives and experiences as fellow photography enthusiasts. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chieko Shiraishi, an artist who carried out an artist residency for Les Rencontres, and KAI Fusayoshi, an artist who will be part of this year’s edition, were both present and delighted to reunite with the two Quebecers in Kyoto. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The visit also featured the opening of Serge Cl\u00e9ment’s exhibition Post Huis Clos at the MOMENT Contemporary Art Center in Nara City. Serge is also completing an artist residency there until May 10th. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
