{"id":7878,"date":"2016-05-30T20:00:36","date_gmt":"2016-05-30T20:00:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/2024.photogaspesie.ca\/en\/?p=7878"},"modified":"2016-06-02T16:31:50","modified_gmt":"2016-06-02T16:31:50","slug":"the-image-in-motion-7th-edition-of-rencontres-de-la-photo","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/2024.photogaspesie.ca\/en\/the-image-in-motion-7th-edition-of-rencontres-de-la-photo\/","title":{"rendered":"\u201cTHE IMAGE IN MOTION\u201d: 7th edition of Rencontres de la photo"},"content":{"rendered":"<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The 7th\u00a0edition of Rencontres internationales de la photographie en Gasp\u00e9sie will run from mid-July to early October\u00a02016, on the theme \u201c<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>The image in motion<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\">.\u201d Exhibitions and installations showing the work of about 30 artists from Qu\u00e9bec and different countries will be presented both outdoors and indoors at some 20 sites in 17 municipalities or national parks in the Gasp\u00e9.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\">\u201c<span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Whether it involves inquiring into reality, transforming it or sublimating it, the image lies at the heart of our era, like a metaphor of events lending rhythm to our everyday lives. Our wish, for this 7th edition of Rencontres, is to make room for photographic practice and the image in motion within a constantly changing environment,\u201d explains Claude Goulet, executive and artistic director of Rencontres. \u201cOur aim is to present contemporary topics linked to our rapidly changing society, historical projects linked to photographic archives, as well as polemical or meditative projects, the idea being to reexamine ourselves and to consider together this introspective and collective power that the image brings to daily life.\u201d <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\">Among the guest artists may be noted <\/span><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hannevanderwoude.nl\/portfolio.php?serie=34&amp;page=3&amp;focus=0\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>Hanne van der Woude<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"> (Netherlands) with <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>Emmy\u2019s World<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\">. Documenting the life of an octogenarian couple, Emmy and Ben, as well as that of Ben\u2019s brother, this video and photo installation focuses on intergenerational friendship, creativity, the art of living, and independence. Rencontres is also presenting the results of the creative residencies of a number of French artists in the Gasp\u00e9. <\/span><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/mofn.ens-lyon.fr\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>Laurent\u00a0Mulot<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\">, to whom we owe the long-term project <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>Horizon incertain \u2013 Middle of Nowhere<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\">, will be presenting his work about the St. Lawrence River, while <\/span><\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/galerielereverbere.com\/ficheArtiste.php?id_artiste=41\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>Jacques\u00a0Damez<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"> will unveil his images of identical sites \u2013 from Montreal to the town of Gasp\u00e9 \u2013 in summer and in winter, and his recordings of accents specific to each region.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><a name=\"_GoBack\"><\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sergeclement.com\/film-de-serge-clement\/\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>Serge\u00a0Cl\u00e9ment<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"> will be showing three short films: <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>Parfum de lumi\u00e8re<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"> (2002), <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>L\u2019envol du ciel<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"> (2013), and <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>D\u2019Aurore<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"> (2009), winner of an award from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Qu\u00e9bec for best work in art and experimentation at the 2012 Rendez-vous du cin\u00e9ma qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois. <\/span><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/isabelle-hayeur.com\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>Isabelle\u00a0Hayeur<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\">, meanwhile, will present <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>R\u00e9publique<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\">, a body of images on the repercussions of the November\u00a013, 2015 attacks in Paris. This is work from her residency project in Beauvais and in Paris, made possible thanks to a collaboration between Rencontres and the organization <a href=\"http:\/\/www.diaphane.org\">Diaphane, P\u00f4le photographique en Picardie<\/a>.<\/span><\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.catherinetremblay.com\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>Catherine\u00a0Tremblay<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"> for her part will present a video installation on a semi-transparent photographic support taking the form of a large cube, on which pictures of the sea during the day mix with a scene of people ambling after the sun has set, their chaotic motion, in contrast with the calm stretch of sea, echoing the poetry of existence<\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>Michel Lamothe<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"> will be offering his series <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>Photogrammes<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\">, which proposes an encounter between cinema and photography and is built around the deconstruction of motion. With images from sequences filmed in the Maritimes and in Qu\u00e9bec, the artist takes an intimate look at the passage of time. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>Stephen\u00a0Lawson, Shauna Janssen and Aaron Pollard<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"> are doing a creative residency in the Gasp\u00e9 this summer. Their sound and video installation <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>gasp\u00e9sieARCADE<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\">, which will do service as a \u201cboutique\u201d and present a special collection of shoeboxes containing miniature scenes filmed by both the artists and the public, will be presented beginning August 18.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\">In other developments, Rencontres is extending its activities to a new municipality, Caplan, and to the fourth park on the peninsula, Gasp\u00e9sie National Park, which becomes a partner in the event alongside the national parks of Forillon, Miguasha, and Bonaventure Island and Perc\u00e9 Rock.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span style=\"font-size: xx-small\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>Photographer Tour<\/b><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p align=\"JUSTIFY\"><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\">The Photographer Tour, from August 18 to 21, 2016, will offer a series of public get-togethers on the subject of creation in the presence of the artists of the 7th edition. <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>Free outdoor projections <\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\">will be held every day, in addition to different activities (roundtable, lectures&#8230;) intended for those better acquainted with photography. The official opening will take place on August 19 at Quai des arts in Carleton-sur-Mer, where the exhibit <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><i>The Photographic Book<\/i><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"> will be held once again this year starting in mid-August, curated by <\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\"><b>Serge\u00a0Allaire<\/b><\/span><\/span><span style=\"font-family: 'Arial Narrow', serif\"><span lang=\"en-US\">.
